FAQ Q264: How can I accept Bitcoin payments (BTC) and other cryptocurrencies?
Section: Integrations with specific payment gateways
Bitvolo
You can choose Bitvolo as the payment gateway for your site. Bitvolo will allow you to accept BTC (non-custodial onchain), BTC Lightning Network (or on-chain BTC) via a Strike.me account, ETH, XRP, ADA as well as SEPA bank transfers. In case of crypto, you need to specify your own cryptocurrency wallet address and all the payments go directly to your wallet. They don't go through our wallets and they will not be automatically converted to fiat currencies. Bitvolo fully automates the payment process: the customer is given the exact amount of cryptocurrency to send (based on the day's exchange rates), then bitvolo monitors your wallet for the incoming payments and if successful, shows the confirmation to the customer and also automatically confirms the reservation.
As for the SEPA bank transfer, the process is manual. the customer will receive the payment/account details (also as a printable PDF) and upon receiving the payment you must go to the backend of bitvolo.com in order to mark the payment as successful. This then automatically confirms the reservation in planyo.
Coinbase
You can accept Bitcoin with Planyo's Coinbase.com integration. Coinbase is a leading BTC payment gateway and the first million in accepted payments is completely commission-free. It will also immediately convert the BTC payments to your currency so you don't have to worry at all about the highly variable exchange rates.
In your Coinbase account settings, go to "API".
Then generate a new API key of type: HMAC (Secret+KEY) -- this is the default. In PERMISSIONS make sure you ONLY select BUTTONS. We do NOT want to give more permissions to this api key.
After you create the key, you must still enable it (requires verification by email).
Then click on the key and you'll see both the API key and API secret.
Now that you have your API keys, you'll need to go to planyo, choose Coinbase in
Site settings / Online payments and enter both the API key and the API secret separated by slash. Of course you can use two payment gateways, such as Paypal and Coinbase to offer to your customers a possibility of paying either with a credit card or with Bitcoins.
